Dark circles under the eyes are extremely common and can appear for many different reasons – lack of sleep, dehydration, sun damage or allergies – to name a few. Some people may also suffer from pigmentation or they may have inherited dark circles genetically. 

As we age, we naturally start to lose the fat surrounding our eyes and combined with thinning skin, dark circles can become more defined and harder to shift.  Fortunately, it is possible to disguise these dark circles using the right makeup. 

  1. Prep your skin with a good quality moisturiser and primer. This will ensure your skin is well hydrated and create an ideal base for your makeup
  2. Apply a hydrating foundation that gives good, buildable coverage, taking it under the eyes and blending in gently. Look for products that contain SPF to protect the eye area from sun damage
  3. Use a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your usual colour and apply it to the under-eye area, making sure to blend in well with your ring finger
  4. Apply a small amount of highlighter to the top of the cheekbones – this will reflect the light and help to brighten your entire under eye area, including any dark circles
