As we age, the upper area of our eyes around the brow bone can start to droop down towards the eyelid and over the eye socket, causing what is known as hooded eyes. As a result our eyes can look smaller and less defined, and it can be difficult to know how to rectify this.
With just a few clever tricks and tips you can use makeup to open up the eye area, creating a lifting effect that will give you beautiful wide awake, bright eyes.
Always apply an eye shadow primer to smooth the surface of your eyelid and help your makeup to stay put all day. Avoid creasing and smudging
Apply a light eyeshadow to the eyelid area and take it slightly higher to just above your natural crease – opening up the eye – and leave the area under the brow bone natural
Take a slightly darker, medium colour shadow and blend to the outer third of your eye to give the impression of an eye socket and build dimension. Blend well with a soft brush. You can also add a highlighter to the inner corner of your eyes to make them appear wider and brighter
Apply an eyeliner along the lash line while looking downwards to avoid getting liner higher on the lid
Top tip! Avoid shimmer under your brow bone as this actually makes the sockets more pronounced and your eyes appear smaller, rather than larger.
